I've not played Tecmo Bowl. That's just the truth. I've watched people engage in it often. But I knew what I could do. I knew about what it was that Tecmo Bowl man could do. It's a joy listening to people compliment me on that day's game.
A part of your video game return to Madden will be celebrating Nike's iconic Bo Knows campaign. We'll go back to the beginning. How did Bo Knows' brand present the idea of Bo Knows to you?
We happened upon Bo Knows accidentally. Directors, writers, and sketchers We were sat with a storyboard to shoot our next project. We decided to trim the length because it seemed way too long. Everybody was giving their opinion about this or that. I said, "Why can't we do this? ... Do we don't we move this across here, add this there, then combine it, and then cut it down to five or six hours?' They glanced at me with a smile and thought 'Wow. It's probably going to work.' Then somebody across the table glanced at me in a way and said "Bo Knows!' Then it stuck. No one sat down and ran through their thoughts or stayed up late with that phrase. It happened while sitting at the table discussing shoots.
Before you were able to get an iconic shoe, that was the Nike Air Bo Turf, in the year 1990, you launched by wearing the Nike Air Trainer 3, which was later referred to as your shoe. What memories do you have concerning those shoes? Air Trainer 3?
Let me explain it in this way. In 1969, when I was in the first grade growing up in rural Alabama, during the winter months, it was in thirty-six degrees outside. And I had to go to school naked. There were no shoes. This isn't for sympathy or as a sob story. But I can remember my brother standing just a few blocks away from his house. I'm in front of the door. My sister was standing just a blocks away from me, and My other sister was at the bus station. My sister was waiting at the bus stop noticed that the bus had climbed the hill a couple of miles away from her, she'd yell her sister, who would yell to my brother, and my brother would shout at me. After that, I'd run out the door barefoot. By the time my brother was able to reach my first sister, I would've caught him by the time he reached me. When we finally got there I'm just 15 and 20 yards in front of my sister and brother. I went to school barefoot in the winter of '69 to becoming a teenager and wearing an athletic shoe that was inspired by my own ... It was blessed.
After about 30 years, people continue to brag about their shoes and keep that shoe. A couple of weeks ago one of my best friends my own, Anthony Anderson, the comedian, texted me, 'Hey, Bo! I'm doing a comedy show about all my sneakers. I can't find any Air-Trainers from you. I need a pair of your shoes It just so came to pass that I had the pair within my work space. I said, 'Hey, I've got one here. I'll send the pair to you. It's these moments that where I sit back and say, 'Wow!.'
In this NFL year, New York Giants running back and Nike athletics player Saquon Barkley received his own rendition of Air Trainer 3. What did it feel like to see him pay homage to you by wearing the sneakers?
