How Japanese Hairdressers Create Personalized Haircuts
Sit in the chair at a proper Japanese salon and the first thing you’ll notice is what doesn’t happen. No stylist grabs a comb and starts snipping within thirty seconds of you sitting down. Instead there’s this pause — sometimes an uncomfortably long one for anyone used to the ten-minute express cuts back home — where the stylist just… looks. At the growth pattern. At how the hair falls when you turn your head. At the cowlick you’ve spent years fighting and never mentioned to anyone because, honestly, who has the patience to explain a cowlick to someone with scissors in hand and four more clients waiting.
