If ordinary rares already force repeated retreats, address that weakness first. More demanding encounters are unlikely to solve a progression problem when completing them consumes the time you need to gather resources.
Measure Progress Beyond the Best Drop
Review several maps together. Note encounter time, deaths, resources collected, and equipment that actually fits your target. One exciting drop can make a slow route look better than it performs; several uneventful runs can reveal its real cost.
