The Superions: A Synth-Pop Side Project with a Campy Twist
The Superions is a quirky and humorous synth-pop side project founded by Fred Schneider, best known as the frontman of the iconic band The B-52s. Formed in the mid-2000s, The Superions allowed Schneider to channel his love for kitsch, satire, and electronic dance music into a new creative outlet. The group also includes Noah Brodie and Dan Marshall, who round out its distinctive, camp-laced sound.
Their debut self-titled EP was released in 2010, featuring tracks like “Totally Nude Island” and “Who Threw That Ham At Me,” which showcase their signature blend of absurd lyrics and retro beats. Later that year, they released the holiday-themed album Destination… Christmas!, filled with offbeat and irreverent tracks like “Fruitcake” and “Teddy and Betty Yeti.”
The Superions' music is characterized by its playful spirit, infectious rhythms, and a clear homage to vintage pop culture. Though a niche act, they’ve earned a cult following and continue to be celebrated for bringing humor and flair to the synth-pop genre.
