A trommel screen, also known as a rotary screen, is a cylindrical screening machine widely used for separating materials based on size. It plays a crucial role in numerous industrial processes, ensuring efficient sorting of various substances.


How Does the Trommel Screen Work
1.Feed Inlet: Materials to be screened are fed into one end of the rotating cylindrical drum through the feed inlet. The drum is usually mounted at a slight incline to facilitate the movement of materials along its length.
2.Rotating Action: As the drum rotates, the materials inside are tumbled and moved forward. The drum is equipped with a series of screens or perforated panels of different sizes along its circumference. Smaller particles pass through the appropriate holes in the screens, while larger particles continue to move along the drum until they reach an exit point or a screen with larger openings that they can pass through.
3.Discharge: Once the materials have passed through the desired screens, the separated fractions are discharged from the drum at different outlets located at various positions along the length of the drum, depending on the size of the particles.

Classification By Type
Stationary Trommel Screens: These are fixed in one location and are typically used in large - scale industrial operations where a large volume of materials needs to be screened continuously. They are often integrated into a production line.
Mobile Trommel Screens: Mounted on wheels or tracks, mobile trommel screens offer high mobility. They can be easily transported to different job sites, making them ideal for applications such as construction waste recycling, where the screening location may change frequently.
Single - Deck and Multi - Deck Trommels: Single - deck trommels have only one screening surface, suitable for simple size separation tasks. Multi - deck trommels, on the other hand, have multiple screening surfaces stacked one above the other, enabling the separation of materials into several size fractions in a single pass.

1. Waste Trommel Screen

Screening Raw Waste: Used for preprocessing mixed waste to separate organic matter, plastics, paper, and other materials.

Separates kitchen waste (fine particles) from plastic bottles and cans (large particles) through different mesh sizes.

2. Magnetic Trommel Screen
Function:
Separating Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Materials: Equipped with permanent or electromagnetic magnets to attract ferromagnetic substances (e.g., nails, steel bars).
Extended Applications:
Multi-stage iron removal design: Coarse screening removes large iron blocks, while fine screening removes iron filings to improve recycling purity.
Combined with eddy current separators to simultaneously separate non-ferrous metals (e.g., aluminum, copper) for comprehensive metal recovery.

3. Floatation Trommel Screen
Function:
Screening Floating Waste: Utilizes density differences to separate floating materials (e.g., plastics, wood) from sink materials (e.g., sand, metals).
Extended Applications:
Integrated water circulation system enhances buoyancy separation, suitable for river dredging or solid-liquid separation in wastewater treatment plants.
Works with defoaming devices to process industrial wastewater containing foam and recover plastic particles.
4. Classifying Trommel Screen
Function:
Size Classification: Separates materials by particle size through screens of different apertures (e.g., 0–5mm, 5–20mm, >20mm).
Extended Applications:
Multi-stage screen design: Multiple sections with different mesh sizes in one drum complete multi-level classification in a single pass.
In construction aggregate production, it can simultaneously produce various specifications such as stone powder, fine sand, medium sand, and crushed stone.
